| 5-HTP, also known as 5-hydroxytryptophan, is the direct precursor to the neurotransmitter serotonin. Low levels of serotonin are associated with sleep problems, depression, anxiety, compulsive eating disorders, restless leg syndrome, migraines, fibromyalgia and low pain threshold. Many people that are afflicted with one of those conditions often have others, which has led some researchers to label them collectively as "Low Serotonin Syndrome". Serotonin is an important initiator of sleep. In numerous studies, 5-HTP has been shown to decrease the time required to get to sleep, increases REM sleep and deep sleep. By increasing the brain’s concentration of serotonin, an antidepressant effect is created. 5-HTP works by increasing the amount of serotonin manufactured in the brain. Although systematically administered serotonin does not readily enter the brain, its direct precursor, 5-HTP does penetrate the blood-brain barrier, and therefore, dietary consumption of 5-HTP leads to an increase in brain serotonin concentration.

| Osteoporosis is a debilitating disease in which bones become fragile and more vulnerable to breaking and fracturing. If not prevented or if left untreated, osteoporosis can progress until a bone breaks, making the condition painfully evident. These broken bones, also known as fractures, occur typically in the hip, spine, and wrist and often require extensive recovery. Osteoporosis is a major public health threat for more than 28 million Americans, 80 percent of whom are women. In the U.S. today, 10 million individuals already have the disease and 18 million more have low bone mass, placing them at increased risk for osteoporosis. One in two women and one in eight men over age 50 will have an osteoporosis-related fracture in their lifetime. Post-menopausal women are often more susceptible to osteoporosis as a result of possible hormonal imbalance. An insufficient amount of nutrients, poor diet and lack of weight-bearing exercise can also contribute to the onset of osteoporosis.

| Cal-Mag uses only minerals that are guaranteed to be of superior quality for maximum absorption. Independent research suggests that chelated minerals may be more bioavailable than regular ionic minerals. We use pure calcium extracted from Calcium Hydroxide and Calcium Carbonate for Calcium AAC. Calcium is one of the most abundant substances found in the body. Over 99% of all the calcium found in the body is located in the bones and teeth. The primary function of calcium is in the development and maintenance of strong bones and healthy teeth and gums. A constant supply of this mineral is required throughout life, especially during periods of growth, such as childhood, pregnancy and lactation. It is also important in the maintenance of a healthy heart. Calcium may help prevent cardiovascular disease, lower cholesterol levels, is essential in blood clotting and may lower blood pressure. Calcium may prevent bone loss associated with osteoporosis. Osteoporosis is a debilitating disease in which bones become fragile and more vulnerable to breaking and fracturing. An insufficient amount of nutrients, poor diet and lack of weight-bearing exercise can also contribute to the onset of osteoporosis. Magnesium is one of the most abundant minerals in soft tissues and is a vital catalyst in enzyme activity, especially the activity of those enzymes involved in energy production. Magnesium functions in the conversion of carbohydrates, protein, and fats to energy. It also plays a role in the synthesis of the genetic material within each cell and removal of excess toxic substances. Poor magnesium intake affects all tissues, especially tissues of the heart, nerves and kidneys. Deficiencies of this mineral may interfere with the transmission of nerve and muscle impulses, causing irritability and nervousness. Vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin that has qualities of both a vitamin and a hormone. It's primary function is to regulate the absorption and utilization of calcium and phosphorus and to aid in the formation of normal bones and teeth. Vitamin D also protects against muscle weakness and is necessary for thyroid function. It is involved in regulation of the heartbeat and normal blood clotting. By regulating the level of calcium in the blood, Vitamin D aids in the maintenance of a healthy nerve and muscle system. Zinc is an essential mineral that is vital for bone and collagen formation. Deficiencies in this nutrient can cause fingernails to become thin and weak. Zinc also promotes a healthy immune system and the healing of wounds. Zinc is also required for the digestion of protein and helps the liver in the detoxification process. Boron is an element located in numerous tissues in the body. This trace element is needed for healthy bones and muscle growth; assisting in the production of natural steroid compounds. It is also necessary for the metabolism of calcium, phosphorus and magnesium. This formulation uses a powerful combination of nutrients that work synergistically to keep your bones healthy. Olympian Labs’ Cal-Mag is a 100% pure, vegetarian formulation that contains no animal bi-products and is available in easy-to-swallow, kosher-certified capsules.
